Welcome all, especially anyone from Göteborg, Sweden!!!

Okay I found this one too.  It is a not so super great example of mixing pencil with photoshop.  I was new, okay?

Augh it’s so hard not to nitpick your old stuff, so hard.  I should just be grateful I can see the mistakes now I guess.

WIP (Lyanna Stark)

I don’t know where this is any more.  I could finish it digitally, but it started as a color pencil thing.  I love color pencils, they’re painstakingly slow but it’s reassuring if you need time to properly visualize things, like I do.

This is at least six years old, makes it kind of weird to see the kind of mistakes I made back then.  This is really all I think I can find as far as presentable old stuff goes.

Salvation (an older Sansa Stark and Sandor Clegane)

Before He Sees (Cersei/Jaime, for asoiaf_exchange summer 2009)

I have artist’s block (surprise) so I’m posting super old shit because … that makes it worse better!

I am rather horror stricken at myself for having misplaced these files … ugh I really don’t want to give these pieces up, but where are the psp files D:

Really irritated at myself.  I don’t often like my stuff but I thought these had promise.

WIP: The Way We Were

I should just say this is done … but I don’t want to.  Even though I’ve already presented it to the person for whom it was a gift.  So many things left undone.  And … I don’t know, maybe there are things I can be doing in an easier way.

One thing I definitely have found that helps me is drawing on tracing paper.  Pencil erases so easily on tracing paper that I feel much less anxious about locking myself into something that will ultimately look terrible.

I honestly don’t know what I’m improving at, if anything.  If it wasn’t for the cheating afforded by digital programs, this would look so terrible.  I mean, I shamelessly fix proportions in photoshop with the select+resize tool, for some reason it’s easier to see on screen.  I know they advise you to flip things to make sure you keep seeing things freshly, but holding something up in front of the mirror always confuses me.

For me so much of my struggling with art is seeing properly.  The rest is certainly not natural to me, but I can muddle through with some diligence and time.  But seeing things in the first place, I dunno, that takes a lot of invisible sweat.

I wanted this to have such perfect composition, I wanted to do a lot with dark/light and leading the eye and all this, but I don’t think it worked, the framing is off … so I guess I am going to call this a WIP still and see what I can do with it.  Some day.  After I haven’t seen it for a long time.

Atia of the Julii

A Memory of Laughter

I don’t like this very much, this was a very frustrating project because my laptop was going all kinds of berserk and as a result I didn’t get to really fix a lot of the faces.  I mean, hey I’m not the greatest at faces, but I can do better than that.  Sansa’s is halfway decent I guess.  Anyway I did end up liking the color palette, and I enjoyed figuring out the composition even though I had to end up doing undesirable things to cover up for things I had no time to fix.  And I’m glad I went for something that was, for me, ambitious.  Anyway, practice makes perfect, at least I got it to a finished state.
