And their logic was one moment wasn’t enough to prove Cat was okay to Jon all her life, but it was enough to prove she was a child abuser! I just.. I cannot fathom that logic.

ARGH I say this about different characters all the time. I don’t condone what she said to Jon, but I UNDERSTAND it. Because she’s human. And was in a horrible, horrible place. And I’m sorry that ONE MOMENT cannot make me hate her ever.
It’s just that I have never seen ANYONE ever ANYWHERE. EVER say that what Cat said to Jon is a good thing, or something she oughtn’t regret.
What people say is that it doesn’t define her totally, and that people in fandom frequently love characters who do much worse things.
I have only seen one or two people in ten years even come close to saying that it was a good thing, and that count pales - paaaaaales - in comparison to people who will define her by that one thing.
So. Like. I really don’t see where people get this idea of some cabal who dismiss Cat’s flaws.
But if you say that Cat treated Jon that way all the time, or that she abused him, or that she is to blame for him being at the Wall, or that she made his life substantially miserable, that is fair game for debate even if you still can’t find it in you to like her.
Like someone or don’t, but don’t hyperbolize. That doesn’t help any argument, and is rarely necessary anyway …?
